Sharon Morrison

Consultant Physiotherapist

Sharon is an internationally respected Consultant Physiotherapist with over 35 years of experience in sports, dance and performance medicine. She is the Founder and Director of Sharon Morrison Physiotherapy and Associates, based in Sutton Coldfield and has built a reputation for clinical excellence, innovation and a patient-centred approach.  Sharon graduated in Physiotherapy from Robert Gordon University (formerly the Grampian School of Physiotherapy), Aberdeen, in 1991. She later completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Biomechanics at the University of Strathclyde (1996), followed by an MSc in Sports Medicine from Trinity College Dublin (1999).

Throughout her career she has worked extensively across the independent healthcare sector, elite sport, professional dance and the entertainment industry, giving her broad clinical expertise in treating and managing injuries ranging from recreational sports participants and professional dancers to elite Olympic athletes. Since 1995, Sharon has served as the exclusive Consultant Physiotherapist and Clinical Director for Dame Jayne Torvill and Sir Christopher Dean, supporting their ice touring companies in all aspects of performance and injury management worldwide.

Sharon’s expertise in sports medicine led to her transition into dance and a key role at Birmingham Royal Ballet in 1998, where she became the designer and Clinical Director of the Dance Injuries Centre. Established through a significant grant she secured from the Jerwood Foundation, the centre was later named The Jerwood Centre for the Prevention and Treatment of Dance Injuries and was officially opened in 2002 by His Majesty King Charles III.  She also served as a consultant during the relocation and development of the Elmhurst School for Dance, as well as coordinating the delivery of physiotherapy services to the school.  Between 2009 and 2017, the clinic provided specialist physiotherapy services to the school, focusing on injury prevention and performance optimisation.

In 2005, after seven successful years with Birmingham Royal Ballet, where she implemented injury prevention strategies and enhanced dancers’ career longevity, Sharon moved into independent consultancy in sports and dance medicine. Her clients come from a varied background, including local referrals in Birmingham and Sutton as well as professional athletes, dancers, and performers from across the UK and Europe.

Since founding her private practice in 2005, Sharon has held a range of professional roles and affiliations, including Director of her Sutton Coldfield clinic, Advisor on the Physiotherapy Advisory Board of Dance UK and Physiotherapy Consultant and Medical Coordinator for many high-profile productions. Notable credits include ITV’s Dancing On Ice (17 series), Ninja Warrior UK (6 series), WOS Wrestling (2 series), Stepping Out, Torvill & Dean’s Last Dance Tour and Dancing On Ice Live Tours, Strictly Come Dancing Live UK Tours, as well as serving as Consultant Physiotherapist to Phil McIntyre Entertainment and Live Nation.

Sharon’s career is marked by a dedicated commitment to excellence in patient care, whether helping someone regain the ability to walk their dog, return to performing on stage or to pursue an Olympic medal.
